Stupid credit bureau tricks

Today I tried to create an account at the web site for the Experian credit bureau.

I followed the instructions to the letter.

On the second screen of the signup form when I pushed Submit, I got a message saying “An error occurred. Please try again.” No explanation. Nothing saying “we need your zip code” or something like that.

So I double checked everything and tried again, a few times. Same error.

So I called customer service. I got right through, thankfully. The agent told me I had tried too many times and so I’m locked out for three days. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?

This is a web site that has my personal information. And the programmers can’t get the signup workflow right. Not a good way to build trust. But, I’m their product not their customer, so what should I expect from a surveillance-economy web site?
